Jolyn Clothing was named after the relatives of Warren Pedersen, an awkward native Southern Californian who spent his life as a water athlete and artist. With a background in art and design he thought of the idea to use his skills to create his own brand of performance swimwear emphasizing color, print, detail, and fit. To get his concept going, he began making trips after work to meet with swimwear designers and pattern makers to learn pattern making, apparel production, and quality control. Lunch breaks were spent racing to and from local sewing mills, and studying for garment industry certification tests to be in good standing with state and national manufacturing requirements. Weeknights and weekends were spent testing, retesting, and tailoring fabrics and suits using athletes from local universities and high school teams as models, behind athletic directors’ backs. It was soon after Warren found himself using his vacation hours working in sewing mills; and financing his own creations in order to reach his vision to bring about what he understatedly calls a “unique collection for a unique culture,” without the need to compromise with investors.
Jolyn Clothing evolved into a lifestyle brand where its swimwear and apparel reflect the community supporting us and sharing our ideas. We give respect to all those involved in the creation process because, “everywhere you go you’ll find people who aren’t well known but who are doing amazing work,” as brilliantly described by Snohetta Architects, a source of inspiration. Sharing this embrace, we found ourselves being the first aquatic swim brand to make “personality” a priority over traditional embodiments like “technology,” “dominance,” and “power.”
Eclectically inspired by coastal Australian boutique brands, hints of SoHo and Brooklyn motif, La Jolla surf nostalgia, and industrial design, our swimwear is crafted in a way that has instantly boosted the emerging label uniquely into fashion runway shows as well as popular aquatic and outdoor magazines. All prints are limited edition and only available through Jolyn Clothing.
We know firsthand how ruinous swimming, water polo, surfing, and paddle boarding can be on a suit. This insight is why we carefully construct our collections using extremely durable and high-performing material. Top water athletes continually test our products, proving they meet the diverse training needs of our active friends by withstanding waves, chlorine, salt water, perspiration and multiple practices a day.
Our suits are made from select Italian fabrics and designed, cut and sewn in Los Angeles, California.
